TESTIMONIALS

I would like to highly recommend Joe Mullins’ company, “Athletic Training and Conditioning, Pitching and Performance Specialists” to anyone who plays baseball. My son, Brandon Culbreth, a right handed pitcher was referred to Joe by his baseball agent, Mike Baker.  We had very little knowledge prior to Brandon’s first visit of exactly what Joe did as well as what he would be doing to work with Brandon. We trusted Brandon’s agent and went for the scheduled appointment. By the time we left that appointment I was truly amazed at Joe’s knowledge and what he was able to do in a short time with Brandon.

First and foremost Joe listened so well to Brandon and was able to quickly know so much about him. It was almost as if he had known him for years. In fact I found some things bizarre that Joe knew were important and meaningful that only he understood. The fact that every once in a while Brandon’s right ankle would pop told Joe something about him that was important even though it was not painful or an issue for Brandon.

Joe spent an hour on the first visit talking with Brandon then did a video analysis. As he went through each portion of making the video, he would give a detailed explanation to Brandon of what he was doing and what he was looking at. He was quickly able to determine possible trouble spots for Brandon which are typical for other pitchers. He then explained to Brandon exercises he could do to help improve and correct any issues he might have. It was very interesting to watch Joe explain how everything works but made it very easy for Brandon to understand. That in itself is a gift to have that immense knowledge and yet easily explain in lay terms to those who do not have that background.

Once that visit was complete, Joe then analyzed Brandon’s video and e-mailed to us the link on line to view specific individualized exercises for Brandon. We were able to print off the exercises and Brandon went to work on them right away.

By Brandon’s next game, I could tell a difference. I am not sure I can explain it other than to say his mechanics seemed smoother and he seemed to be throwing even harder and was throwing strikes. I am sure an expert could see more than just a mom that has watched her kid play for 13 years…but I could tell it was a positive change in a short amount of time.

Brandon did a couple more follow-up visits with Joe after the initial visit and worked more specifically on pitching mechanics. Again, I can not explain what I saw other than a continued improvement in results on the mound for Brandon.

Brandon is so very fortunate to have been drafted out of high school to the Houston Astros. It is his dream come true. He is already in Florida for training. We are already working withBrandon’s agent to make sure that when Brandon returns for off season that he will be working with Joe again. My only regret is that we did not know Joe sooner.”

“I have worked as an orthopedic surgeon with Joe for 18 years at this point and feel especially able to comment on his abilities.  He is in short an expert at both the evaluation and treatment of athletes.  I have been most consistently impressed with his assessments and treatments of throwing athletes.  Basically, Joe is more accurate than an MRI scan in determining the cause of a shoulder problem; it frequently feels like overkill ordering investigative studies when he refers someone in for surgical evaluation.

Sometimes when I have a thrower as a patient and I can’t quite figure out the problem, I’ll have them work with Joe for awhile and usually by assessing their mechanics or testing them over time he can get to the root of the problem quite effectively.

I am equally confident in his ability to rehab patients postoperatively.  He is skilled at getting athletes back on the playing field from the operating room in a safe but expedicious manner.”

“Over the 14 years that I have worked with Joe Mullins I have always been impressed with his professionalism, preparation, and attention to detail. Joe’s ability to integrate his clinical background of rehabilitation with the biomechanics of pitching is unique and will stand the test of time.”

In working with Joe Mullins, I noticed a significant change with my pitching staff.  We had less elbow and shoulder problems.  My pitchers bounced back quicker from appearance to apperarance.  They were able to throw more pitches and go deeper in games without arm problems.  My pitchers were also able to throw more pitches in a game earlier in the season.”

“Where do I begin with Joe Mullins? He has a meticulous eye when it comes to proper pitching mechanics. With this knowledge, Joe is able to detect flawed movement patterns that can predispose an athlete to injury. His ability to clearly convey this knowledge makes him an outstanding teacher and Athletic Trainer. The athlete/patient always comes first and Joe will go the extra mile with his services. Personally, Joe is a great friend and mentor. He has helped me as an Athletic Trainer and, more importantly, as a person.”

Joe Mullins has a thorough understanding of the modern pitcher. His research into proper throwing mechanics has ultimately reduced the risk of injury to the baseball pitcher. Joe has identified the potential hazards, and most common flaws most young pitchers face each time they take the mound. Joe’s study of the proper throwing mechanics guides my team’s daily throwing program. In six years of high school coaching, none of my players have ever been sidelined due to an arm injury.”
